The mission of the Dating Violence Prevention Center is to implement programs that educate, advocate, and empower communities to intervene and prevent dating violence against young women. The Atlanta based Center was founded in February 2008 by Shalanda Moten, who is a community counselor in training, professional youth educator, and survivor of dating violence herself.
The Center’s goal is to reduce incidents of violence against young women, by conducting clinical research, distributing educational materials and training community members to become advocates for young women’s human rights, health and dignity. For young women who have suffered, or currently suffer from abuse, the Center will offer crisis support, therapy, recovery seminars, and safety planning. The Center intends to engage the community at large through a series of educational programs that focus on peer leadership and mentoring.
Note: We are a 501(c)3 organization.
